English: John McDouall Stuart. Arrived in South Australia from Scotland in 1839 and joined Charles Sturt's party exploring the centre of the continent. Later in 1859, John McDouall set out with four others blazing a trail to make a permanent route north [from Adelaide?]( Information taken from Australian Dictionary of Biography, v.6. pp. 214-215).
