Tech News

• There will be no Tech News issue next week. The next issue of Tech News will be sent out on 2 September 2019.

Problems

• Some abuse filters stopped working because of a code change. Only variables for the current action will work. Variables defined inside a branch may not work outside of that branch. You can read more to see how to fix the filters.
• Only six accounts can be created from one IP address per day. Between 12 August and August 15 this was two accounts per day. This was because of a security issue. It is now six accounts per day again. [1]

Changes later this week

• Only a limited number of accounts can be created from one IP address. An IP address can be whitelisted so that it can create as many accounts as needed. This is useful at events where many new persons learn to edit. IP addresses that are whitelisted for this reason will also not show CAPTCHAs when you create accounts. This will happen on Wednesday. [2]
• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 20 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 21 August. It will be on all wikis from 22 August (calendar).

Meetings

• You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 21 August at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.

Future changes

• There is an RFC about creating a new global user group with the right to edit abuse filters. This will be used to fix broken filters and make sure all filters will still work when software changes happen. You can read more and comment.
• Special:Contributions/newbies will no longer be working. This is because of performance reasons. It showed edits by new accounts. You can see this in the recent changes feed instead. [3]

Autopatrol

Salutari si multumesc pentru incredere!

In special, sunt activ pe hu.wp, am scris articole despre cladiri si strazi din Brasov. M-am gandit sa traduc cateva pentru ro.wp sau en.wp, dar ro.wp mi se pare putin a fi un vest salbatic (multe articole copyvio, duplicari, texte partinitoare). Se pare ca sunt foarte putini redactori care au grija de wiki, poate cumva reusim sa atragem mai multi in viitor. Deocamdata ma ocup cu corectii mai mici.

PS. sunt cel care v-a contactat in legatura cu OSM name tags.

Cât am avut eu tangență cu hu.wp, am găsit numai articole cu foarte puține surse bibliografice sau copiate în întregime de prin dicționare de dată recentă. Cele șase volume ale dicționarului hu:Romániai magyar irodalmi lexikon (1981-2010) au fost copiate, cred, în întregime, fără niciun cuvânt modificat. Oricât de „vest salbatic” ar fi ro.wp, așa ceva nu am întâlnit. În cazul că găsiți articole „copyvio” pe ro.wp, chiar vă rog să le marcați pentru a putea fi rescrise sau șterse. --Donarius (discuție) 29 august 2019 13:30 (EEST)

Sigur, intotdeauna exista loc pentru imbunatatiri. Da, am marcat mai multe articole problematice cu sabloane, dar nu s-a intamplat nimic, poate nimeni n-a avut timp sa se uite (sau am facut ceva gresit). E interesant cum experiențele fiecăruia ne formează imaginea. :) E alegerea dvs. unde alegeți să participați și sunt sigur că ați avea cum ajuta ambele ediții. Avem într-adevăr o problemă cu articolele de unit, în principiu pentru că mulți așteaptă să facă unirea un administrator pentru a nu pierde istoricul, însă 20 de articole copyvio din 400.000 nu mi se par multe - apropo, multumesc că mi-ați amintit de ele, mai fac acum un pic de curat.--Strainu (دسستي‎)  29 august 2019 16:27 (EEST)

Am observat că vă ocupați de fotografiile din cadrul WLM, în cazul în care o fotografie a unui monument de artă plastică care nu îndeplinește libertatea panoramei este încărcată local, pe lângă formatul {{FOP Romania}} mai trebuie adăugată o licență? Da, trebuie. FoP se refera la drepturile de autor ale arhitectului, pentru fotograf sunt drepturi separate și acolo nu acceptăm decât licențe libere. Eu vă sfătuiesc să folosiți lista pentru încărcări strict de monumente, se face pre-fill la foarte multe câmpuri automat (categorii, categoriicoordonate, chiar și wikiul e ales automat în funcție de starea monumentului).

Dacă chiar nu vreți să participați la concurs puteți scoate formatul WLM, dar până la urmă chiar dacă unii nu îl consideră mare lucru, WLM e și un eveniment pentru wikipedisti, nu numai un concurs foto. Recent changes

• You can use the new termbox interface if you edit Wikidata on a mobile device. This is to edit labels, descriptions and aliases easier on the mobile pages. [4]
• The new version of MediaWiki has been deployed during the last week.
• The previously announced change of positions of the "Wikidata item" link on all wikis has been rollbacked due to unexpected cache issues. [5]
• The limit for rollbacks has been increased from 10 to 100 rollbacks per minute. [6]
• The advanced version of the edit review pages (Recent Changes, Watchlist, and Related Changes) now include two new filters. These filters are for "All contents" and "All discussions". They will filter the view to just those namespaces. However the "All discussions" filter does not include pseudo talk pages, like discussions that are in the Project: or Wikipedia: namespaces. But it will include changes happening on Project talk: or the Wikipedia talk:. [7]

Buna ziua. Observ ca pagina prof. dr. Cornel Tatai Baltă a fost ștearsă de pe wikipedia. Nu știu care ar fi motivul.... Ce condiții ar trebui sa îndeplinească o astfel de pagină pentru a fi activa. Rezultatele profesorului sunt evidente: oare trebuie justificate pe baza unor exigențe pe care le impune wikipedia? Mulțumesc de răspuns. William Bleiziffer

Da, există Wikipedia:Notabilitate. Notabilitatea se dovedește prin surse de încredere independente care vorbesc despre subiect (nu opere ale subiectului, nu interviuri, nu preluări ale unor comunicate de presă - toate acestea pot fi folosite pentru a susține afirmatii punctuale din articol, dar nu și pentru a dovedi notabilitatea) și care sunt adăugate în articol ca note de subsol. Structured Data - computer-aided tagging

The development team is starting work on one of the last planned features for SDC v1.0, a lightweight tool to suggest depicts tags for images. I've published a project page for it, please have a look. I plan to share this page with everyone on Commons much more broadly in the coming days. The tool has been carefully designed to try to not increase any workload on Commons volunteers; for starters, it will be opt-in for auto-confirmed users only and will not generate any sort of backlog here on Commons. Additionally, the tool is highly privacy-minded for the contributors and publicly-minded for the third party being used, in this case Google. The implementation and usage notes contain more information about these and other potential concerns as a starting place. It's really important that the tool is implemented properly from the start, so feedback is welcome. Questions, comments, concerns are welcome on the talk page and I will get answers as quickly as possible as things come up. Este o divergență de opinii între noi, dar asta nu înseamnă că nu putem avea amândoi dreptate. Reacțiile dvs. sunt disproporționate dintr-o interpretare necorespunzătoare a intențiilor mele. Știu că sunteți administrator de interfață, administrator și mai știu ce alte funcții, dar nici eu nu am pierdut vremea pe aici. Poate ar fi cazul să discutăm colegial, presupunând fiecare buna credință a celuilalt. Încep să mă satur să mi se pună iarăși la îndoială buna credință. Îmi dau seama că încercați să atrageți colaboratori noi și să-i ajutați să promoveze chiar dacă sunt nepregătiți, dar la ce o să folosească proiectului alungarea celor mai vechi? Tocmai pe această lipsă de reacție v-ați bazat și acum mulți ani (și conturi) când ce-i faceți acum lui NGC îmi făceați mie. Atunci nu v-a ieșit și deși nu pare, acum comunitatea e mai bine pregătită să facă față unor asemenea atitudini.

Wikipedia are nevoie de Donarius, nu de neni. Vă propun deci o înțelegere: lăsați-l în pace pe NGC până la încheierea alegerilor și nu îmi voi mai exprima nici eu dezaprobarea indiferent cât de greșite ar fi opiniile dvs.--Strainu (دسستي‎)  19 septembrie 2019 23:30 (EEST)

Vă contrazic. Wikipedia nu are nevoie de Donarius, că oricum e în moarte clinică. Mai sunt activi doar vreo 5 (maxim 10 în perioada de vârf) utilizatori care mai scriu articole, 3-4 administratori și vreo câțiva care mai apar doar când sunt convocați. Nici măcar vandali nu mai există: tot ăia clasici, care încă nu s-au plictisit, și vreo câțiva derbedei care mai scriu câte o obscenitate din când în când.

Nu mai reacționez nici eu la mesajul de mai sus, că tot nu mai citește nimeni. O să mă ocup în continuare cu articolele la care lucrez și nu mă voi mai implica în discuții, că oricum e un timp pierdut pe care nu mi-l va da nimeni înapoi. --Donarius (discuție) 20 septembrie 2019 00:31 (EEST)

Societatea s-a schimbat. Cei batrani s-au scarbit, cei tineri se dau cu trotineta si vorbesc romgleza. Trendul este planetar, vezi enwiki, este edificator. Securitatea oligarhica impinge lucrurile la nivel global spre o dictatura ce va veni intr-un final in deceniile urmatoare. Ea se foloseste de lachei si jupani de la politicieni la orice alt ceva in scopul de a controla profitul. There are two separate blog entries for Structured Data on Commons posted to Wikimedia Space that are of interest:

• Working with Structured Data on Commons: A Status Report, by Lucas Werkmeister, discusses some ways that editors can work with structured data. Topics include tools that have been written or modified for structured data, in addition to future plans for tools and querying services.
• Structured Data on Commons - A Blog Series, written by me, is a five-part posting that covers the basics of the software and features that were built to make structured data happen. The series is meant to be friendly to those who may have some knowledge of Commons, but may not know much about the structured data project.

Problems

• Last week's Tech News had delivery problems. Some did not get the newsletter. Some got it more than one time. The problem where some pages got it three times should now be fixed. [13]

Changes later this week

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 1 octombrie. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 2 octombrie. It will be on all wikis from 3 octombrie (calendar).

Meetings

• You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 2 octombrie at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.

Future changes

• The Wikimedia Foundation Community Tech team is working on a watchlist expiry feature. This means you can put things on your watchlist for a period of time instead of forever. They are looking for feedback on the questions they have.
• Special:Contributions will get the standard OOUI look. This makes it easier to use on mobile and makes it look like other Special: pages. There is a script you can use to make the form smaller if you want to. [14]

Ce dracu faceți, ăsta încarcă într-o veselie după ora 24, chiar dacă multe din ele intră la categoria junk, needitate, nedenumite, necategorizate, iar robotul fundației era dezactivat cu câteva minute înainte de ora 24. E ultima mea ediție, îmi pare sincer rău că m-am și chinuit să particip. Am vazut ca pagina Toony Tube a fost stearsa acum muuult timp si as vrea sa o recreez si sa o imbunatatesc. AlbForLife4, e un pic mai complicat cu acea pagină, pentru că a fost ștearsă de mai multe ori și în cele din urmă protejată. Înainte de a vă apuca din nou de ea, ar fi preferabil să faceti o cerere de recuperare urmărind procedura de la Wikipedia:Pagini de recuperat. Recent changes

• The abuse filter function now has a faster parser. This is to shorten the waiting time when you save an edit. [15]

Problems

• There is a problem in the visual editor when you copy or delete text with footnotes. It will be fixed soon. [16]

Changes later this week

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 8 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 9 October. It will be on all wikis from 10 October (calendar).

Meetings

• You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 9 October at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.

Future changes

• The Community Wishlist Survey has a new format. It will focus on wikis that typically get less support. It will probably go back to the normal format next year. It is not decided exactly how it will work this year. You can leave feedback.
• The URL of the Wikimedia wiki main pages could be changed. This is because the current URLs cause several problems. For example https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Main_Page would be https://www.wikidata.org/ instead. You can tell the developers if this would cause problems for your wiki.
• There is a new technical community newsletter. You can read more about the work of Wikimedia's technical community. Subscribe to get the information in the future.
• Outreachy is an internship program for groups who are underrepresented in free and open-source software. There are seven Wikimedia projects about coding, documentation and quality assurance in the next round. Persons who fit the criteria can apply. The last day to apply is 5 November.

Structured Data - computer-aided tagging designs

I've published a design consultation for the computer-aided tagging tool. Please look over the page and participate on the talk page. If you haven't read over the project page, it might be helpful to do so first.
