Deutsch: Das Wappen des Landkreises Birkenfeld wurde am 28. Juli 1949 vom rheinland-pfälzischen Innenministerium verliehen. Das Schachmuster verweist auf die Hintere Grafschaft Sponheim, der Löwe auf die Grafschaft Veldenz.
English: The arms were officially granted on July 28, 1949 by the minister of the interior of Rhinland-Palatinate. The arms show the symbols of the former rulers of the district. The chequy shield is derived from the arms of County of Sponheim and the lion refers to the County of Veldenz.
Français : L'armoirie du arrondissement de Birkenfeld a été décernée officiellement le 28 Juillet 1949 par le Ministre de l'Intérieur de la Rhénanie-Palatinat. L'écu échiqueté dérive de l'armoirie du Comté de Sponheim, le lion est le lion du Comté de Veldenz.
